The 1833 Society is a 501(c)(3) non-profit registered in the State of New Hampshire as a charitable organization. Our mission is two-fold: to assist the Peterborough Town Library trustees in designing a new library for the town and to raise the funds to do so. This $8.5 million project will be a public/private partnership. The 1833 Society is conducting a capital campaign to raise $5.5 million. Voters will be asked to approve a $3 million bond in May, 2018. With funding in place, construction is planned to begin in late 2018.

The 1833 Society currently has thirty-five members. It is governed by a board of nine directors.
